Plastics Recovery System (Sink Float)

At URT, we are focused on the recovery of plastics from the company’s recycling process. Our Plastics Recovery System takes advantage of the fact that different plastics have unique densities, allowing them to be separated by floating or sinking in a liquid medium. This post-shred process allows us to produce a clean granulated product and increase the value for all the electronic plastics entering our facility.

Electronic waste plastics can account for more than a dozen of different polymers and certain plastics containing flame-retardants need to be separated. The system focuses on the recovery of the following plastics: Polystyrene, ABS, Polyethylene, and Polypropylene.

How does it work?

  1. Material goes into the feed hopper
  2. Material goes on to the conveyor into Tank 1
  3. Heavy product (sinks) is separated from light (floats) product
  4. Heavy plastics and metal go through Tank to separate out the metals from the plastics (each have their own output)
  5. Float plastics go through a granulator
  6. Small pieces then go through Tank 3, which separates PP/PE plastics from ABS/PS plastics
  7. These pieces go through air dryers and then to the output

Commodity Outputs

  • ABS & Polystyrene Material (sinks)
  • Polypropylene & Polyethylene (floats)
  • Metals & Circuit Boards
  • Hard Plastics
  • Fine Material (sorted at the end)
